This historic hot spring ryokan was founded in 1818. Guests can experience hot spring culture, Japanese cuisine culture, banquet culture, and Japanese garden culture, as well as Japanese ryokan culture rather freely. Wear a yukata and experience Japanese culture.
[Hot Spring Culture] As a well-known hot spring that ranks with Kusatsu and Arima, this locale has a hot spring quality that has led to it being known as one of the top 3 in Japan. The large communal baths' open-air baths are open 24 hours a day, and guests can enjoy the seasonal scenery of Hida River and the majestic mountains while having a soak. Additionally, the private open-air baths are also available for JPY 2,000 (tax not included) for 45 minutes per room (requires a reservation on the day at the front desk). The cypress bath was refurbished in June 2019.
[Japanese Cuisine Culture] The seasonal kaiseki course meals and Hida beef cuisine are recommended for guests' meals. The menu changes each season and is known for featuring a variety of arrangements. Enjoy luxurious, seasonal ingredients.
[Japanese Garden Culture] There is a magnificent 3,636 square meter Japanese garden. There is also a lake with Japanese carp swimming around. There are also spots where pictures can be taken, so please take a stroll around.
[Bosenkan Recommendations] There is a free shuttle bus from Gero Station to Bosenkan. Corresponds to limited express trains arriving between 13:00 and 18:00. Please make use of it. - International staff will welcome guests at the front desk. There are 3 staff members that can speak English. (2 Chinese-speaking staff members, 1 Korean-speaking staff member) Please note that there are times when multilingual staff are not present. - All guestrooms are equipped with Wi-Fi.
There are a total of 4 guestroom types: guestrooms with open-air baths, Western-style rooms with an Asian accent, private guest residences, and Japanese-style rooms. Meals are served at the dining hall. The lodging features the "Horai" Japanese cuisine dining room and "Snack Taiun" where guests can enjoy alcoholic drinks. (*Hours: 20:00 - 23:00) In the morning the coffee shop will also be usable. (Hours: 7:15 - 10:30; Coffee - JPY 450) It is just 10 minutes on foot to the heart of Gero Onsen and just 30 minutes on foot to Gero Onsen Gassho-mura, an area that has reproduced the unspoilt scenery of Japan. From Gero Station to Takayama it is about 50 minutes by via limited express train and 60 minutes by car. It is 90 minutes by car to Shirakawago.
