Established 380 years ago, this hotel was once appointed by the Tokugawa Government in Edo as an official hotel for the feudal lords of the Sankinkotai system. It is said that after a famous duel on Ganryu Island, the great swordsman Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) worked out a detailed plan for the "Gorin no sho," ("A Book of Five Rings," a book of military tactics) while staying here.
